Marsabit Lodge is situated within Marsabit National Park, which is one of the best kept wildlife secrets sanctuaries in the world. It was home to the legendary king of Elephants, Ahmed(clickto read more), who died a natural death and whose remains is a major attraction at the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi.
The park's comparative inaccessibility ensured that it remained unchanged for centuries, unaffected by ravages of mankind.
Marsabit is accessible by 4 wheel drive vehicles off tarmac road, stretching 260km from Isiolo town just North of Mt. Kenya. The drive to Marsabit also passes through Samburu game reserve, crosses the Ewaso Nyiro River and proceeds to a beautiful wild country, undulating plains with occasional volcanic outcrops.
Beyond Samburu country on drives through Rendille country before climbing the beautiful forested Marsabit Mountains where the lodge is located.

Ahmed the famous elephant
The lodge, with 24 fully refurbished guestrooms all with private bathrooms and back doors giving access to the balcony, enjoys uninterrupted views, lies within Marsabit Mountains Range, which rises from the expansiveChalbi desert.
Sorkorte Diko, a cliff lined bowl forming a natural amphitheatre provides an excellent view into this wildlife paradise. The lodge is conveniently situated just 8km from Marsabit Airstrip. Paradise Restaurant overlooking Sokorte Diko offers international and local cuisine. An open fog fireplace is a feature of Sokorte bar and lounge where guests can enjoy friendly hospitality.

Marsabit is a staging post for the journey up to the northern tourist circuit.; this is also the beginning of adventure which intrepid travellers make when cross the Chalbi desert to reach Lake Turkana.
